Herb McCracken, known by his stage name Herb Ward, was a soul singer born on April 26, 1937, in North Philadelphia. He passed away on December 24, 2013. Raised in Germantown, he attended Germantown High School and served in the Marine Corps from 1954 to 1962. After his military service, McCracken began his music career in 1963 as a rhythm and blues singer, recording for Buddy Records, a Philadelphia label. His most notable single was "Hands Off, She's Mine," along with other tracks like "Strange Change," released in 1965. He toured the East Coast during the late 1960s. In the 1970s, he transitioned to a career with the Streets Department as a tractor-trailer driver, retiring in 1999.
