Herwig Mitteregger is an Austrian drummer, guitarist, vocalist, composer, and producer, born on September 6, 1953, in Mautern, Steiermark, Austria. He currently resides in Hamburg, Germany. Mitteregger gained recognition as a member of the German rock band Spliff, which was formed after the disbandment of the Nina Hagen Band, where he recorded two albums with Nina Hagen as the lead vocalist. Spliff introduced themselves with the rock parody 'Spliff Radio Show' and released four albums before splitting up during the peak of the New German Movement ("Neue Deutsche Welle"). Following the band's breakup, Mitteregger released five solo albums before moving to Spain and becoming a father. He returned to Germany in 2008 and released Insolito along with two more albums.
