**Bio: High Numbers** For a brief period in 1964, specifically from July to October, the band known as "The Who" adopted the name "High Numbers." This change was influenced by their association with Pete Meaden, a mod who managed them during that time. Under Meaden's guidance, the band shifted their music and image to align more closely with the mod movement, leading to the name "The High Numbers," which was derived from mod slang. However, the name change was short-lived, as they reverted to "The Who" by November 1964. By this time, they had also transitioned to new management, replacing Meaden with Kit Lambert and Chris Stamp. This strategic decision helped them distance themselves from the stigma associated with their unsuccessful single as the High Numbers, allowing them to present their first single of 1965, "I Can't Explain," as the debut of a fresh new band, "The Who."
