Hildegard Knef, known as Hildegarde Neff in the USA, was a renowned German actress and singer born on December 28, 1925, in Ulm, German Empire. She began her career as a cartoonist at the UFA studios in Potsdam in 1942. In 1946, she gained prominence with a leading role in Germany's first major film after World War II, "Die Mörder Sind Unter Uns" (The Murderers Are Among Us), portraying a former Nazi concentration camp prisoner. This film became a worldwide success and marked the beginning of her illustrious career. Knef's performance in "Die Sünderin" (The Sinner) featured the first nude scene in German film history, creating a significant scandal and drawing criticism from the Roman Catholic Church. In 1951, she transitioned to Hollywood, where she worked alongside various prominent actors, establishing herself as Germany's number one export. Her portrayal of Pirate Jenny in the 1962 production of "Die Dreigroschenoper" (Three Penny Opera) showcased her exceptional acting talent.
