Hölderlin is a German Krautrock band from Wuppertal, founded in 1968. The band evolved from a 1960s folk group and took its name from the 19th-century writer. Originally a family band, the core members were brothers Christian and another sibling, with a lead singer and dancer who later became Christian's wife for 15 years. In 1970, they began to develop their own repertoire, characterized by a trippy, cosmic-styled progressive folk sound with rich textures and influences from psychedelic, medieval, and classical music. Their first album, "Hölderlin's Traum," released in 1970, gained significant popularity in Germany. The follow-up album, produced by another individual, leaned more towards rock than its predecessor. Over the next few years, they recorded four more albums, including a live album in 1978 titled "Traumstadt," which is regarded as one of the best-received live albums of the Krautrock era. Between 1976 and 1977, the band recorded the first solo album of one of the members together with her. Hölderlin split in 1981 but was reactivated by some of the original musicians in 2005.
