The original lineup consisted of lead vocalist and guitarist Johnnie Dee, guitarist Derry Grehan, and drummer Mike Lengyell. They gained attention after winning an unsigned band contest with their song "New Girl Now," leading to a contract with WEA Canada. Their self-titled debut album, released in 1984, produced several hits in Canada, including "New Girl Now," "Burning In Love," "Wave Babies," and "Stay In the Light."
