Horace Parlan (1931–2017) was an American jazz pianist renowned for his soulful touch and deeply rhythmic style. Overcoming partial paralysis in his right hand, he developed a distinctive, syncopated approach that became his signature. Parlan gained early recognition with Charles Mingus and later led acclaimed recordings for Blue Note Records, including *Us Three* and *Speakin’ My Piece*. Rooted in blues and gospel influences, his music combined warmth, ingenuity, and swing, securing his place as one of modern jazz’s most expressive and resilient voices.
