Horace Tapscott was an American pianist and composer, born on April 6, 1934, in Houston, Texas. He passed away on February 27, 1999, in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 64. Tapscott is best known for founding "PAPA" (or "The Ark," for short) in 1961, a role he maintained until his retirement in the 1990s. Before establishing PAPA, he played trombone in various bands in Los Angeles from 1959 to 1961.
