Howie Smart, born Howie Atkins, earned the nickname "Smart" due to his vocal resemblance to Leroy Smart. Although he initially formed a group with musical friends in Jamaica, he began his recording career after relocating to Canada. His first recording was featured on the disco track "Walls of Babylon" in 1978, released by Choice. A friend of the producer, King Culture, discovered Howie Smart in the studio and invited him to record for his label. This collaboration resulted in two albums: "Rock and Come In" and "Howie Smart Meets King Culture in Dancehall Style," released in either 1982 or 1983, with some tracks overlapping between the two albums.
