Huge Voodoo is the brainchild of D. Bruce Grant, also known as "Mister Bruce," who was a longtime resident of Madison, New Jersey. He attended Fairleigh Dickinson University in the early 1970s and passed away in January 2009. Bruce was a pioneer in live music creation with his innovative "AutoDope" system, which utilized a collection of monaural tape decks to play cassette loop tapes featuring a diverse array of sounds, including drum beats, bass lines, machine noise, guitar riffs, and vocal samples from various media sources. During live performances, he expertly mixed these elements on the fly using a small mixing board, creating unique soundscapes. His musical influences included early American music, black blues and jazz artists, the sermons of Reverend Gates, and the fusion sounds of Weather Report. In the late 1970s, Bruce assisted in producing several New Jersey bands, including WKGB. He later collaborated with WKGB's co-leader, Dennis Kelley, in the 1980s to create remarkable tracks as "Deekay Jones," some of which are associated with the "Church of the Subgenius" subculture.
