Humphrey Lyttelton was a British jazz trumpeter, clarinetist, and bandleader, born on May 23, 1921, in Eton, Berkshire, England. He passed away on April 25, 2008, in Barnet, Hertfordshire, at the age of 86. Affectionately known as "Humph," he worked with the British jazz pianist from March 1947 to January 1948 and led his own bands from January 1948 through the 1970s. Lyttelton also had a successful career as a writer, journalist, and broadcaster, contributing extensively to music and other topics. He hosted 'The Best of Jazz' on BBC radio from 1967 to 2007 and chaired the comedy panel show 'I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue' from 1972 until his death in 2008. In 1983, he founded his own record label, inspired by his passion for calligraphy.
