**Hurdy Gurdy Bio** Hurdy Gurdy was formed in June 1967 from the Danish group Peter Belli and the Boom Boom Brothers, also known as The B.B. Brothers. The band consisted of guitarist Mac MacLeod, drummer, and British vocalist and bassist. They drew inspiration from psychedelic music and achieved considerable success in Scandinavia, breaking attendance records for their live shows. The group relocated to England in early 1968 after MacLeod was deported from Denmark. On December 19, 1967, MacLeod reached out to Donovan's manager in Denmark, seeking assistance for the band. Donovan wrote "The Hurdy Gurdy Man" as a gift for MacLeod. Upon returning to the UK, MacLeod and the band played their version of the song outside Donovan's cottage, but Donovan preferred a softer, acoustic arrangement. He later released his own version, which became a hit and bore similarities to Hurdy Gurdy's rendition. Donovan noted in December 1968 that the song was originally written for the band, highlighting MacLeod's influence on his early guitar playing. While in the UK, Hurdy Gurdy recorded tracks produced by notable figures in the music industry.
