I Benjahman, born Alex Robertson in London in 1958, is a reggae artist whose musical influences include The Wailers, Jimmy Cliff, Justin Hinds, and Rico. His Rastafarian faith was solidified during a trip to Jamaica in 1979. I Benjahman's first recording was a song titled “How Long,” and he collaborated with the band Zabandis, relying on his friend Tunga to help write songs and chord structures since he never learned to play an instrument. Seeking to elevate his music, he worked with Tony King, who operated a studio in West Kensington, alongside engineer Sid Bucknor, drummer Horsemouth, Tony Asher, and bassist Tony Silvera. Together, they produced tracks such as “Sweet Reggae Music,” “Give Love A Try,” “She Got To Know,” “Natural Forces,” and “Jah Nation.” These songs, along with those recorded with Zabandis, were featured on his 1983 LP “Fraction Of Jah Action.” After a lengthy hiatus focused on his domestic life, I Benjahman made a comeback in 1997 with the album “Rasta 2000.”
