Ian Carr was a Scottish jazz trumpeter, band leader, writer, and composer, born on 21 April 1933 in Dumfries, Scotland. He began his career in the early 1960s in a group with his younger brother. Carr is perhaps best known for his jazz-fusion group, which enjoyed success throughout the 1970s and lasted until 1988. His recordings as co-leader of another group during the 1960s have become highly sought after by jazz record collectors. In addition to his musical career, Carr was also an accomplished writer, having authored biographies of notable figures in the jazz world. He passed away on 25 February 2009 in London, England, at the age of 75.
