Ian Dury & The Blockheads were an art-rock group formed in London, UK, in 1977. The band was centered around the songwriting and performance of singer Ian Dury, alongside guitarist and keyboardist Chaz Jankel, bassist Norman Watt-Roy, guitarist Mick Gallagher, saxophonist Davey Payne, keyboardist John Turnbull, and drummer Charlie Charles. They were originally active from 1977 to 1982, with intermittent tours in 1987, 1990-1991, and 1994-1995. After Dury was diagnosed with cancer in March 1996, the group reformed later that year and played their final show on 6 February 2000. Dury passed away on 27 March 2000. The band reformed as a tribute for the album in 2001 and has continued to perform intermittently with some lineup changes ever since.
