Ida E Os Voltas was formed in late 1985 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, by punk artist Ida Feldman and her father, Aron Feldman, a renowned 'gaúcho' marginal filmmaker who faced censorship during the Brazilian military dictatorship in the 1970s. The band emerged from the city's post-punk scene after Ida met Bruno Verner, Aleca (A. de Alexandria), Frederico Pessoa, and Bernardo Rennó, longtime friends living in the same tower block. They frequented local art punk venues, Trincheira and Complexo B, which were significant to the scene at the time. The band's name was suggested by photographer Leca Kangussu after a night out at Complexo B. Over the next two years, Ida E Os Voltas became a prominent presence in the underground concert circuit, gaining a strong cult following for their quirky live performances, candid poetry, and lo-fi, Casio-driven post-punk sound. The band disbanded in 1988.
