Ijahman Levi, born on June 21, 1946, in Christiana, Manchester, Jamaica, grew up in Trenchtown before emigrating to England at the age of 17. He initially joined the Vibrations and later formed Youth And Rudie And The Shell Shock, performing with them until he launched his solo career in 1966. While in prison from 1972 to 1974, he adopted the name Ijahman and pursued spiritual interests. Upon returning to Jamaica, he recorded an album that received critical acclaim. In addition to his solo work, he achieved a No. 1 UK hit in 1985 with his wife, Madge, performing as 'Ijahman and Madge' with the song 'I Do.' He is also credited as T. Sutherland for songwriting.
