Ike White was an American funk and soul guitarist and keyboardist, born in California in 1945 and passing away in 2014. He released one album after being courted while still in prison for murder. In 1964, at the age of 19, he was charged and sentenced to life in prison for murder. After serving 14 years, he was released from CDCR Prison in San Luis Obispo in 1979, following active campaigning for his release. Following his release, he lived under various aliases, including David Ontiveros, David White, and finally David Maestro, under which he self-released two albums. Tragically, Ike White committed suicide by hanging at his home in Oceanside, California, in 2014, just two weeks after being tracked down and interviewed by a documentary film crew. His sole album, recorded in 1974 while incarcerated in San Quentin State Prison, was released in 1976. The documentary about his life, titled "The Changin' Times of Ike White," was released in 2019.
