Iko Chérie is the experimental pop project of French artist Marie Merlet, based in London. With a background in film and electroacoustic composition, she has a strong affinity for dub textures and analog sounds, creating a unique soundscape filled with woozy incantations, Casio drones, reverb-drenched guitars, and processed spoken word samples. Originally from Bordeaux, Merlet maintained a close relationship with music while studying at the conservatoire, performing in various bands and DJing on local radio station Nova Sauvagine. Her artistic journey took a significant turn when she met Laetitia Sadier and joined the band Monade, leading to recordings and tours that solidified her path in music. In London, Marie continues to explore her musical passions as Iko Chérie. She is also a guitarist in the psychedelic cumbia outfit Malphino, a member of HahaSounds Collective, and has collaborated with artists such as Yama Warashi and Gina Birch of The Raincoats. Additionally, she hosts a monthly residency on Soho Radio, celebrating women in music.
