Illinois Jacquet (October 31, 1922 – July 22, 2004) was an American jazz tenor saxophonist, composer, and bandleader, born in Broussard, Louisiana. He was also skilled at playing the bassoon, making him one of the few jazz musicians to master that instrument. At the age of 15, Jacquet began his musical journey with s' Orchestra. In 1939, he moved to Los Angeles, California, where he met and occasionally performed with his trio. Throughout his career, he played with several big bands, including those of (1942), (1943-1944), and (1945-1946). After participating in the inaugural "Jazz at the Philharmonic" concert, Jacquet established his own band, which featured his older brother, a trumpet player, and recorded notable albums for various labels.
