Illusion of Safety is the ongoing project of Daniel Burke, active since 1983. Over the years, he has collaborated with various artists and released more than 20 CDs on notable labels including Complacency, Die Stadt, Experimedia, Odd Size, Silent, Soleilmoon, Staalplaat, Tesco, and Waystyx. With a performance history of over three hundred concerts across Europe and North America, Illusion of Safety's work spans genres such as ambient, post-industrial, electro-acoustic, noise, sound collage, improvisation, and power electronics, though Burke prefers not to limit his work to any specific style. Currently, Burke utilizes conventional instruments, electronic synthesis, computer composition, samples, and highly amplified handled objects in his creations. His music combines improvised and composed structures that challenge memory and enhance perception. The resulting soundscapes feature broken sound, disturbed ambience, and unfiltered beauty, aiming to evoke an awareness of the ineffable. Through his work, Burke seeks to activate modes of perception that provide direct access to the psyche and emotions, addressing the necessity of balance and the nature of dichotomy.
