Impulse is the first national signing of the Berlin label Studio K-7. After selecting from hundreds of demos, they released four mellow tracks on a 12" vinyl. This release includes an abstract mix of Warp's Autechre and a remix of Cologne's Rootpowder, which gained a cult following in the UK. One of their tracks, "One-Six-Four-One-Seven," evokes the magical monotony of long train rides, featuring train noises that develop slowly in rhythm. Impulse, consisting of DJ Mart and Sven South, is recognized for their driving electro-funk sound that, despite its virtual monotony, remains extremely interesting. Their music reveals an intellectual affinity for rhythm researchers like Kraftwerk and Mouse on Mars, making it suitable for both demanding home listening and dance floors. Critics have praised their ability to create deep passages that are both raw and danceable, emphasizing that listening to their records is more enjoyable than mere description.
