In Sync, also known as Purkis, was a pioneering figure in the UK house and techno scene. He actively supported, promoted, and played these genres, making trips to Chicago and Detroit in the late 1980s to source records that were otherwise unavailable to British DJs. In the early 1990s, he played a key role in establishing FatCat Records in Crawley, Sussex, which later moved to London. Although the store has since closed, it remains one of the UK's most revered record stores. Purkis preferred to record music on standard analogue compact cassettes, typically using a 4-track cassette recorder. He was partly responsible for a record label, collaborating with partners to release music under a specific mantle. Beyond the releases credited to his known aliases, Purkis and his associates from 10th Planet contributed to various other works without receiving printed credits. After a long hiatus from the music scene, Purkis launched a new label in January 2006.
