Insane Clown Posse, commonly known as ICP, is a multi-platinum selling rap group formed in 1989 in Southwest Detroit, Michigan. The group is known for their violent lyrics and elaborate live shows. Originally called "Inner City Posse," they changed their name due to conflicts with local gangs after releasing tracks that claimed they "ran Detroit." To maintain brand recognition with the initials "ICP," they adopted a new name after performing shows with a carnival theme, during which the three members painted their faces like clowns. Their fans embraced this unique style, leading the group to keep the face paint and officially become Insane Clown Posse. Throughout their first three decades, ICP experienced a brief moment of mainstream success in the early 2000s and have often been labeled "The Most Hated Band in the World." However, they have recently begun to receive more acceptance.
