Insanlar, meaning "Humankind" in Turkish with a deeper esoteric significance, was formed in late 2010 by Baris K and Cem Yıldız as an in-house jam band for the Minipop series in Istanbul’s Minimüzikhol. The band emerged from a network of friends that included notable figures like Turkish hip-hop star Kabus Kerim and dancer Bahar from Baba Zula, along with percussionist Sinan Tansal from iconic rock bands Karapaks and Mavi Sakal. Over time, Insanlar solidified its lineup with Istanbul’s renowned drummer Alican Tezer, known for his work with Ayyuka, Büyük Ev Ablukada, and ex-Athena. Their music blends shamanistic techno folk with roots in Anatolian Alewi religious poetry, creating a mystic following through their energetic and improvisational early performances. The release of the hypnotic track “Kime Ne” on the UK’s Honest Jon’s label in 2015 propelled the band onto the international stage, where their unique fusion of traditional Anatolian and Mesopotamian instrumentation, electronic music, and spiritual lyrics continues to captivate festival audiences.
