Ira Sullivan was an American musician born on May 1, 1931, in Washington, DC. He was a talented saxophonist, trumpeter, hornist, and percussionist. Known for his versatility, Sullivan excelled on both the trumpet (including flugelhorn) and various saxophones (alto, soprano, and tenor). He gained prominence in Chicago during the 1950s, often performing alongside guitarist Joe Diorio, and became one of the leading figures in the Chicago hard-bop scene. In the mid-1960s, he relocated to Miami, Florida, continuing his musical journey until his passing on September 21, 2020.
