Iron Maiden is an English heavy metal band formed in Leyton, East London, in 1975 by bassist and primary songwriter. The band has undergone several lineup changes throughout its history. The vocalists have included several members from 1975 to the present, with notable tenures from Paul Di'Anno (1976-1977), Bruce Dickinson (1981-1993 and 1999-present), and Blaze Bayley (1994-1998). On guitar, the lineup has featured various musicians, including Dave Murray (1976-1977 and 1978-present), Adrian Smith (1980-1990 and 1999-present), and others during the late 1970s and early 1980s. The bass has consistently been played by the founding member since 1975. The drumming section has seen several changes, with original drummer Doug Sampson (1975-1977), followed by Barry "Barry" Purkis (1977) and others until the present. Keyboards have been contributed by various members, including a live performance role since 1986. Iron Maiden has won one Grammy Award for Metal Performance for the song "El Dorado."
