The Isley Brothers are an American R&B/soul group from Cincinnati, Ohio, formed in the early 1950s. The original lineup consisted of O’Kelly Isley, Rudolph Isley, Ronald Isley, and Vernon Isley, who tragically died in an automobile accident in 1956. The group gained early recognition with their hit "Shout!" in 1959. In 1963, they established their own label, T-Neck, and later added a young guitarist to their lineup. They signed with Motown in 1965, where they recorded "This Old Heart Of Mine." After leaving Motown in 1968, they re-launched the T-Neck label in 1969 and released the hit "It's Your Thing." In 1973, they expanded their lineup to include younger brothers Ernie and Marvin Isley, as well as O’Kelly's brother-in-law Chris Jasper. From 1973 to 1983, the group continued to produce hits like "Between the Sheets," "Choosey Lover," and "For the Love Of You." The Isley Brothers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 as performers. Vernon Isley served as the lead vocalist from 1954 to 1955 before his untimely death at the age of 13.
