Ivan Vandor was an Italian composer, musician, and ethnomusicologist of Hungarian origin, born on October 13, 1932, in Pécs, Hungary, and passed away on November 15, 2020. He moved to Rome in 1938 and began studying violin at the age of six, followed by piano and composition at eight. As a teenager, he became a professional jazz saxophonist. In 1959, Vandor graduated in Composition from the Santa Cecilia Conservatory of Music in Rome and continued his studies in Paris with Max Deutsch the following year. He later attended post-graduate courses at the Santa Cecilia Academy of Music. In 1961, he won the first prize at the International Competition of the SIMC, marking the beginning of many significant international recognitions. Vandor earned his Master's Degree in Ethnomusicology from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1971, followed by research on the music of Tibetan Buddhism in the Himalayas. He was a member performer of the Music Experimentation Group (MEV) alongside various artists. He succeeded as Chair of the International Institute for Comparative Music Studies in Berlin, where he served until 1983, and took over the "Scuola Interculturale di Musica" in Venice. He was the vice-president of the Italian Society of Ethnomusicology and a visiting professor in Composition at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Vandor held numerous conferences
