J. J. Barnes was an American R&B/Soul singer and songwriter born on November 30, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan. He was known for his biggest hit, "Baby Please Come Back Home," which reached #9 on the US Billboard R&B chart in 1967. Barnes was the brother of another artist and moved to England in the 1970s on the recommendation of a friend and groupmate. He became popular in the UK, especially within the Northern soul scene, performing frequently throughout the country. Although he did not achieve major notoriety after the 1980s, he continued to perform until the end of his life. J. J. Barnes passed away on December 10, 2022.
