J.J. Cale was an American singer, songwriter, and musician born on December 5, 1938, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He passed away from a heart attack on July 26, 2013, at Scripps Hospital in La Jolla, California. Known for his influential guitar style, Cale was a key figure in the development of the Tulsa Sound, a genre that blends blues, rockabilly, country, and jazz. Despite his aversion to celebrity, his impact on music has been recognized by notable artists such as Mark Knopfler, Neil Young, and Eric Clapton, the latter describing him as "one of the most important artists in the history of rock." In the late 1960s, he also worked as a recording engineer.
