Jackie Brenston was a musician known for his work with his band, Jackie Brenston And His Delta Cats. In March 1951, he recorded several songs in Memphis, where he sang lead and was credited with writing. One of these songs was given to Chicago's Chess Records for release and became a #1 R&B hit, maintaining that position for over a month. This song has been referred to by many as the "first" Rock & Roll song. After one further recording session, Brenston and his collaborator, Turner, parted ways.
