Jackie Verdell (November 5, 1937 – August 3, 1991) was a talented gospel and soul singer known for her powerful mezzo-soprano voice. She initially served as the second lead singer of a gospel group, where she showcased her vocal abilities on tracks such as "Lord Don't Leave Me," "Following Him," "We'll Understand It Better By And By," and "I Don't Know What I'd Do." Throughout her career, Jackie pursued a solo path, recording both gospel and secular music. She recorded secular material under the name Jacqui Verdell and worked on background sessions for various artists. Notably, she recorded the song "Kumbaya" for a “Push For Excellence” program and received a Grammy nomination, although she did not win. In 1981, she rejoined her original group for their final album and released a gospel album in 1983, which was distributed internationally by Sire/WEA.
