Jaco Pastorius was an influential American bassist and composer, born on December 1, 1951, in Norristown, Pennsylvania. He passed away on September 21, 1987, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, at the age of 35. Known for his work as an electric bass player, he gained prominence between 1976 and 1981 and collaborated with various notable musicians throughout his career, alongside his own solo projects. Affectionately nicknamed "Jocko" by his parents, the name evolved into "Jaco" in the early 1970s when a French-born musician friend mistakenly spelled it that way, a change he embraced. In 1988, he was inducted into US jazz magazine Down Beat's "Jazz Hall Of Fame," becoming one of only seven bassists honored and the only electric bass guitarist to receive this recognition. Jaco was the father of two children, one with his first wife Tracy and another with his second wife, and he was also the uncle of another musician.
