Jacob Kirkegaard, born in Denmark in 1975, is an artist and composer renowned for his innovative approach to sound art. He creates recordings in carefully selected environments, utilizing them in compositions or integrating them with video imagery for visual and spatial installations. His work uncovers unheard sonic phenomena, inviting audiences to experience the world through listening. Kirkegaard has recorded diverse environments, including subterranean geyser vibrations, empty rooms in Chernobyl, Arctic calving glaciers, and tones generated by the human inner ear. His works have been showcased at prestigious venues worldwide, such as MoMA in New York, LOUISIANA - Museum of Modern Art and ARoS in Denmark, The Menil Collection and Rothko Chapel in Houston, The Sydney Biennale in Australia, Aichi Triennale in Nagoya, and the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo. He is represented by Galleri Tom Christoffersen in Denmark and Fridman Gallery in the USA, with his work included in the permanent collection of LOUISIANA - Museum of Modern Art. Kirkegaard's sound works are published by various labels, including Touch (UK), Important Records (USA), mAtter (Japan), VON Archives (France), Holotype Editions (Greece), and Posh Isolation (Denmark).
