Jacob Miller was a renowned reggae singer, songwriter, and drummer, born on May 4, 1952, in New Green near Mandeville, Manchester, Jamaica. He earned the nickname 'Killer' for his powerful opera-style vocals and captivating stage presence, which allowed him to outshine his competitors during performances. At the age of 8, he moved to Kingston to live with his grandmother, and by 16, he had made his first recordings for Studio One. In 1969, he formed a duo with Stephen Brown. In 1974, Miller joined a prominent group and quickly became a favorite, collaborating with them on several records. He also served as the vocalist for another group, contributing to the classic song "Tenement Yard." His promising career was tragically cut short when he died in a car accident on March 23, 1980, in Kingston. Over 3,000 people attended his funeral at the National Arena in Kingston, where Cedric Brooks & the Light of Sheba performed in his honor. Jacob Miller is buried in Dovecot Memorial Park in St. Catherine.
