He gained early recognition at the age of thirteen when he performed on the TV show "Jazz Memories," playing the jazz standard "A Night in Tunisia" by Dizzy Gillespie, accompanied by notable musicians including Georges Arvanitas and Robert Garcia. In the early 1960s, Thollot played with pianist Jef Gilson, exploring free jazz and recording several albums. He was also involved with Don Cherry's New York Total Music Company, touring extensively across Europe. In 1971, he released his first solo album, "Quand Le Son Devient Aigu, Jeter La Girafe À La Mer," pioneering electronic music through innovative recording methods. After a period of limited appearances in the 1980s, Thollot formed a trio in 1993 with Jean-François Jenny-Clark and Tony Hymas, resulting in the album "A Winter's Tale." He collaborated with guitarist Noël Akchoté starting in 1996 and later established a new quartet in the early 2010s, featuring Nathan Hanson, Tony Hymas, and Claude Tchamitchian.
