Jah Stitch, born Melbourne James on July 27, 1949, in Kingston, Jamaica, was a prominent figure in the reggae music scene. He grew up alongside notable artists such as Roy Shirley, Stranger Cole, and The Heptones in a vibrant musical environment. Jah Stitch initially started his career with a sound system called Fingertone, which later evolved into Lord Tippertone, where he formed a friendship with producer Bunny Lee. His first release was produced by Errol Holt, but he soon left Tippertone to join Black Harmony Sound. This transition led to a significant incident where he was shot outside of Bob Marley's shop on Beeston Street in Kingston, prompting him to reinvent his deejay style with a more spoken delivery. In the 1980s, he changed his name to Major Stitch and became involved with Sugar Minott's Youth Promotion, focusing on selecting for the sound and supervising the cutting of dubplates. He played a crucial role in the early recording efforts of various artists, including Yami Bolo, Nitty Gritty, Pinchers, and Tenor Saw. Jah Stitch passed away on April 28, 2019.
