Jah Wobble, born John Wardle on August 11, 1958, in Stepney, London, is an English bass guitarist, singer, poet, and composer. His stage name originated from a drunken mispronunciation of his real name by fellow musician Sid Vicious. Wobble began his recording career as a bassist and founding member of the influential post-punk group Public Image Ltd (PiL). After two albums, he parted ways with John Lydon and PiL in 1980 to pursue a successful solo career, collaborating with a wide variety of musicians and recording projects over the years. His notable work includes explorations into World music, which predated the genre's popularity, as well as music spanning ambient and dance genres. In 2003, he released reworkings of traditional English folk songs. Wobble has been prolific in his output since the mid-1990s and runs his own label, 30 Hertz Records, while regularly touring throughout England and Europe. He is the father of actress Hayley Angel Wardle and is married to a renowned harpist.
