Jaime Delgado Aparicio was a Peruvian jazz pianist, composer, arranger, and orchestra leader, born on October 25, 1943. His father, a politician, supported his musical education and facilitated his trips to the United States, where he studied and formed friendships with notable musicians. After completing his studies, he returned to Peru, where he established various jazz ensembles, composed scores, and collaborated with international artists visiting Lima. In 1970, he was signed by a record label to serve as their music director. The following year, he created the Orquesta Contemporánea, blending jazz, soul, funk, and Latin music with innovative arrangements for an orchestra of over 40 musicians. This ensemble featured musicians from various backgrounds and jazz legends. Delgado continued to engage in numerous projects and collaborations, laying the groundwork for a new generation of Peruvian jazz musicians until his untimely death at the age of 40 in March 1983.
