Jaime Read began his journey into house music in 1988, inspired by tapes from the Shoom and Spectrum brought home by his sister. Prior to that, his musical influences were primarily electro, particularly through Mike Allen's shows on Capital Radio. In 1991, he was introduced to music production with an Ensoniq SQ1+32, creating a few tracks, one of which caught the attention of Richie Hawtin for potential release. He later hired studio time from Justin David, producing tracks that would appear on Basement 282 Records under the name Joe Lewis. During this period, Jaime collaborated with Insync and Mysteron at their studio, The Parlour, where he recorded tracks for his album 'The End Of The Beginning' and an E.P. for Tenth Planet. He also created an E.P. for Ugly Music, during which some of his work was stolen by Joe Lewis, who released it as his own. Jaime was active in Brighton's music scene, where he met Felix Dickinson, with whom he started DJing at The Joint for five years. When Felix and Tony Lee launched Ugly Music, they considered Jaime a key contributor. One night, while Joe R Lewis was DJing at Tony's club night, they played him some of Jaime's upcoming releases. Impressed, Joe offered to release some tracks on his label Target, leading to Jaime's music being sold as Joe's own for the next decade. Jaime continued to produce for Ugly Music and
