James Holvay, also known as "Soul," is a Chicago area rock and R&B guitarist and songwriter born on May 16, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois. He is best recognized for writing four hit songs for the Buckinghams: "Kind Of A Drag," "Don't You Care," "Hey Baby (They're Playing Our Song)," and "Susan." His musical career spans from 1961 to the present and encompasses genres such as soul, rhythm and blues, pop, and rock. Holvay plays various instruments, including guitar and Fender P bass, and provides both lead and background vocals. Throughout his career, he has been associated with several acts, including The MayBees, The Chicagoans, The Livers, The Executives, Kane & Abel, The MOB, The Buckinghams, Jonna, and Eastside Heartbeats. He has worked with multiple record labels, including Cameo Records, USA Records, Mercury Records, Twinight Records, Daylight Records, Colossus Records, Private Stock Records, and Odyssey Records.
