Jamey Aebersold, born on July 21, 1939, in New Albany, Indiana, is an American jazz saxophonist and music educator. He is best known for his "Play-A-Long" series of instructional book and CD collections, which utilize the chord-scale system and have become an internationally recognized resource for jazz education since their first release in 1967. As of 2009, Aebersold has published 126 collections. He has also taught musical improvisation at the University of Louisville and is skilled in playing the piano, bass, and banjo. Additionally, he is the founder of a jazz label.
