Cem Oral, known by his stage name Jammin' Unit, is a diverse music producer born to a Turkish father and a Finnish mother, holding German citizenship. He began his musical journey in his teenage years, experimenting with 4-track recorders and synthesizers. After working as an audio engineer for several years, he transitioned to producing for various hip hop and pop acts. Simultaneously, he released records on Alfred Hilsberg's avant-garde label "What's so Funny About." Eventually, he decided to focus solely on his own artistic vision, moving away from the commercial music scene. Jammin' Unit represents Cem Oral's primary project, rooted in the tradition of dub production. Influenced by dub legends like King Tubby and Lee "Scratch" Perry, as well as early electronic music pioneers, he stands out as a producer who creates music outside the confines of mainstream techno and pop. This unique approach has led to numerous requests for his work in film music, including contributions to the documentary "Wrapped Reichstag" in 1996 and the Japanese future-art film "Synthetic Pleasures." He has also provided remixes for experimental groups such as Can and Die Haut.
