Jan Dismas Zelenka was a Czech baroque composer born on October 16, 1679, in Louňovice pod Blaníkem, Bohemia (now part of Czechia). He passed away on December 23, 1745, in Dresden, which is currently in Germany. Zelenka's music is characterized by its adventurous nature, great harmonic invention, and mastery of counterpoint. Most of his compositions were sacred works, including three oratorios, 21 masses, a Te Deum, and numerous other pieces. He is also known as Johann Dismas Zelenka.
