Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck was a Dutch composer, organist, and pedagogue, born in April or May 1562 in Deventer. He passed away on 16 October 1621 in Amsterdam. His work is significant as it straddles the end of the Renaissance and the beginning of the Baroque eras. Sweelinck is recognized as one of the first major keyboard composers in Europe, and his contributions as a teacher played a crucial role in establishing the north German organ tradition.
