Jandek, born on October 26, 1945, is a strange and reclusive artist based in Houston, Texas, who has been active since 1978. He is known for his prolific output, with a musical style that encompasses blues, electric boogie, spoken word, and avant-garde chamber music. Jandek operates his own label for his releases, with his first album credited to him appearing in 1978. Since then, all subsequent recordings have been released under the name Jandek, including reissues of the Units album. In 2004, he performed his first concert unannounced, 26 years after his debut release, and has continued to perform a handful of concerts each year, gradually releasing them in their entirety through Corwood.
