Janek Schaefer, born in middle England in 1970 to Polish and Canadian parents, began his musical journey by creating sound collages as a child. His career faced a setback in his teens when his voice broke while serving as head chorister at school. A decade later, while studying architecture at the Royal College of Art, he reignited his audio career with a work titled 'Recorded Delivery,' inspired by the sounds of a tape recorder traveling through the British postal system, created for an exhibition with former postman Brian Eno. Since then, Schaefer has focused on the nature of sound, resulting in numerous releases, installations, soundtracks for exhibitions, and notable performances using his self-built 'Twin' and 'Tri-phonic' turntables, recognized in the Guinness Book of Records as the 'World's Most Versatile Record Player.' His work employs hybrid analogue and digital techniques to manipulate field recordings, live modified vinyl, and found sound in a 'Concrete ruffian style' (The Wire, 1998). Recently, he has explored the role of vinyl as a compositional tool with projects such as the 'Skate' LP/installation, 'Wow' 7", and 'On/Off LP.' In 1999, he formed 'Comae,' an improvisational electro-acoustic duo, and has new collaborations set for release soon. Schaefer runs his own label and studio and has released work with various labels, including Sub Rosa,
