Janis Siegel is an American jazz singer born on July 23, 1952, in Brooklyn, NY. She began her musical career in the mid-1960s with the Young Generation, which released a single titled "The Hideaway" on Red Bird Records. Siegel later joined the folk group The Loved Ones, later known as Laurel Canyon, before being discovered by NYC taxi driver Tim Hauser at a party. Hauser, looking to revive four-part harmony singing after the breakup of his group the Manhattan Transfer, invited her to help with some demos, leading to her joining the second incarnation of the Manhattan Transfer. During her time with the group, she won ten Grammy Awards and received a Grammy nomination for her second solo album, At Home.
