**Jards Macalé** Born on March 3, 1943, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Jards Macalé was a multifaceted artist known as a singer, guitarist, composer, arranger, and actor. He dedicated his life to music, deeply influenced by his connections with musicians from Bahia. In 1966, he directed a show for Maria Bethânia and became associated with the tropicalist movement. In 1969, he faced audience discontent during a festival performance of his rock song "Gotham City." Macalé traveled to London in 1970 to meet exiled Bahian artists. Upon returning to Brazil, he released his first solo album, *Jards Macalé*, in 1972, featuring songs recorded by notable artists like Gal Costa and Maria Bethânia. The following year, he recorded the live double album *Banquete dos Mendigos* to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Human Rights Declaration, though it was censored and released years later. In 1974, he introduced the romantic morbeauty aesthetic with his LP *Aprender a Nadar*, created with poet Waly Salomão. Known for his irreverent style, he once rented ferryboats for an album launch party, culminating in a dive into the sea.
